Solar-charged driving recently received a boost in Oregon where our friends at CelticSolar report that the owners of Farrell & Associates Inc., a real estate and property management company in Portland, had a 9.8 kW solar system, complete with an on-site EV charging station, installed.

Farrell & Associates is aiming to attract eco-friendly customers with its new solar array and plug-in car charging station, reports CelticSolar, a blog devoted to covering solar energy and electric vehicles.

Mark Farrell, Principal Broker and Owner of Farrell & Associates, told CelticSolar that the company is helping people plug into solar-charged driving in order to be good neighbors and because customers in the Portland region appreciate businesses taking measures to improve the environment.

The solar PV system, which is attached to the roof of the building that houses the Farrell & Associates offices, consists of 40 panels. The system will generate enough electricity to power an EV such as a Nissan LEAF nearly 40,000 miles per year.

The system is big enough to charge EVs that plug into the charging station while also substantially reducing Farrell & Associates’ annual electricity bill.

Solterra Systems installed the solar panels. It partnered with Charge Northwest to install the plug-in vehicle charging station, which is free and open to the public.

Farrell told CelticSolar that the company would not have been able to install a solar-powered EV charging station without state and federal incentive, which reduced the total cost of the system.
