General Motors will build a solar-powered EV charging station at a third GM plant, this one in Parma, Ohio, Cleveland.Com is reporting.
The station — 12 solar-powered chargers under a canopy — will be used by GM Parma employees who buy GM’s plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt.
Detroit-Hamtramck 1st with solar EV station
GM installed its first solar-powered EV charging station, which boasts 18 kW of solar and 12 EV charging stations, late last year at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant where it is currently building the Volt.
According to Cleveland.Com, a second GM solar EV charging station is due to go online at the company’s Lordstown, Ohio plant on July 28.
Parma Councilwoman Mary Buchholz-Galinas told the Parma Planning Commission that she was excited to see GM construct the solar EV charging station in Parma.
“It’s a great chance for all of us to become greener,” she said.
According to Cleveland.Com, GM plans to build solar-powered charging stations at all of its plants.
