The first globally networked, solar-powered electric vehicle charging station equipped with both Level II – 240 volt and Level I – 120 volt charging capacity to accommodate Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, and other new electric vehicles using the universal SAE J1772 connectors began full operation last week under a 20 kW solar carport in Pulaski, Tenn. The charging station is part of EV-Charge America's network of EV charging stations.

This integrated combination of EV charging stations, smart grid connectivity software and solar, renewable energy generation marks a step in a movement to transition a portion of the transportation sector away from traditional fossil fuels and toward cleaner and renewable domestic energy sources, including solar, wind, and geothermal

A large turnout of local, state and national stake-holders endured one of the hottest days of the year to participate in the commissioning of the ground-breaking solar carport. The ceremony featured presentations from Congressman Lincoln Davis, Pulaski Mayor Dan Spear and hands-on demonstrations of an all-electric-vehicle provided by the local EV-Charge America distributor, Anitech Motors, coupled to Anitech's most technologically advanced vehicle charging system to date.

“Utilizing the smart grid software embedded in the EVCA Charge Net Stations means that utility companies and municipalities can immediately have a feature-packed, globally networked software solution today,” said EV-Charge America CEO Bob Rosinski.
