It's a map plug-in advocates want to see: By the end of the year, the Chevrolet Volt will be available nationwide in the U.S. -- six months sooner than expected.

Yes, that means that even those of us not fortunate enough to live in the first and second-tier Volt rollout states (in orange and green on the map above), will be able to pick up a Volt at our local Chevy dealer, says GM.

The company’s decision to accelerate the national rollout of the Volt was influenced by dealers such as Criswell Chevrolet in Gaithersburg, Maryland, who have witnessed a rapid increase of consumer interest in the EV, GM reports.

Volts have already been delivered to clients in Washington D.C., California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Texas.

In the third quarter, deliveries will begin in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii.

Chevrolet says it plans to deliver Volts in all 50 states by the end of the fourth quarter.
