President Obama has frequently talked about the significance of greening America. And, to his credit, he has taken political and economic action to do exactly this.

Now, Solar Fred, a.k.a Tor Valenza, is trying to persuade President Obama to take his greening of America drive to a personal level and install solar panels on the White House.

Valenza, a long-time advocate of solar who, among other things, is the primary online face of SolarPowerRocks.Com, a web site devoted to helping people in the U.S. go solar, is leveraging both his social media know-how and writing skills to try and reach the White House with his request for President Obama to go solar.

Among other things, he's published columns on SolarPowerRocks.Com and on RenewableEnergyWorld.Com. He's also using Facebook and Twitter to help spread the message that the White House ought to go solar -- again (President Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House in the 1970s, but President Ronald Reagan had them removed when he assumed office in 1980).

Valenza is also leveraging his knowledge of, and connections to, the solar industry in terms of his efforts, and, he says, he's close to getting several solar companies to possibly step forward and donate a solar system to the White House.

In it, 'Solar Fred' offers a list of things that individuals, both within, and outside of, the solar industry can do to help persuade President Obama to go solar at the White House.

These include: writing an e-mail to the White House, contacting local media about the drive, and your own efforts on behalf of this drive, to get the White House to go solar, and, finally, spreading the word about Solar Fred's efforts to get the White House to go solar, perhaps by sharing his column -- or this story about his efforts, or both -- with friends on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, and Newsvine.

Now, if we only could get the White House to buy an electric car and plug it into a solar-ized White House as well, then we'd really be talking ;-).
